Crete is the largest Greek island and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea. From all Greek islands it is the closest to North Africa. Crete has important for Mediterranean location. Heraklion is the fifth largest city in Greece and capital of Crete. Amoudara Beach is the longest one in Haraklion- 7km. It is located 7 km away from Heraklion, 7 km from Knossos Palace, 4 km from the port and 7 km from the airport. Near the city you can find remains from the neolith era, which are evidence that the city was part of the ancient settlement Knossos. Other important cities of Crete are Perama, Vamos, Agios Nikolaos and Yerapetra. Numerous tourists visit destinations like Knossos, Festos, Gortis, the Venetian fortress of Rethymnon, the Church if St. Mark, Sfendoni Cave, the Archaeological Complex Spinalonga, Samaria Gorge and others.
