Travel to Thassos, Greece

Thassos is the most northern island in the Aegean Sea, which is 10-12 km far of the coastline of Greece, very close to Keramoti gulf and the mouth of the Mesta River. Its area is 392 km² and is province of Kavala region. The population of the island is of about 16 000 people. The main and most important city is Limenas, which is often called with the name of the island- Thassos. Ferries from the mainland part of Greece berth in Limenas. It is located at buried in green picturesque gulf. The second largest city is Lamenaria. The highest peak of Thassos is Ipsario (1205 m). The mountain of the island is covered with Mediterranean pine forests,but lower on the slopes and foothills- cypress, plane, fit-tree, horse-chestnut and evergreen bushes. Narrow coastal lowlands are covered with olive gardens, but on the coast grow fig-trees, pomegranate and peach-trees. The circumference of the island is about 100km. The marble is another attraction of the island, exported in whole world.
